What Would Ya'll Do?

ATTENTION FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND FANS:

With only 34 days to go until lift off, Pete and I are starting to get everything together for the trip. Our focus has been on the following:
A) Composing a meticulous packing list (well, I'm composing and Pete is going along with it)
B) Putting the finishing touches on Carla (... well, Pete is finishing and I am providing moral support)
C) Finalizing our wills just in case we get gobbled up by an alligator in the bayou. (That happens, right?)

But, we still have a few weeks to go, so this means that we have a little down time before we jet off towards the wild, wild west. What to do with that time? It's the perfect opportunity to get some last minute advice from those who will be sharing this adventure with us.
We think now would be a good time to open it up to ya'll - as they say in the south - and get your ideas and opinions on what we should do along the way.

Keep in mind, we're stopping in the following cities: Roanoke, Nashville, Atlanta, New Orleans, San Antonio, Grand Canyon Village, San Francisco, Napa, Portland, and Seattle. Anything within those cities and along the route between is fair game and ready to be explored!

Any landmarks you think we should see?
Special restaurants we can't miss?
Activities we've just got to try?

Whether you're an experienced traveler or haven't quite mustered up the courage, we want your feedback and brain power. Given our route, where do you think we should go and what should we do when we get there? Give us a challenge or two! As if this journey isn't challenging enough...HA! Dare us to try new things and step outside of our Rhode Island-bred comfort zone.

Ideas, dares, suggestions, sage advice -- we'll take whatever ya got.

T-minus 34 days...

Cheers,

Liz

  1. 1) So jealous!!! This is definitely something I wanna do before I turn the big 3-0! 2) I'm a big fan of California, especially Southern Cali (aka: Newport Beach, Long Beach, Santa Monica). If you can, visit Santa Monica and stop by the Santa Monica Pier. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant is on the pier and it's delicious! Also, the 3rd Street Promenade is a really fun place to go shopping! If you head up into canyon country (Valencia/Santa Clarita) Mimi's Cafe is also an excellent place for lunch/dinner! Have funn!!!

  2. Don't text or blog while driving; Stop at a safe place for directions as soon as you need help; Call you mothers!
Take plenty of pictures; ask local people where are the best cheap eats; remember that Everywhere else in the USA is bigger than RI and takes a lot longer to drive through.
If this sounds like a mother's advice - it is!
    Love, Your Mom
